Platin Audio Monaco WiSA Wireless 5.1 Home Theater System Tuned by THX

The $1099.00 MSRP Platin Monaco [available at AMAZON] 5.1-channel surround sound system with WiSA SoundSend is the world’s first all-in-one WiSA Certified wireless home theater system to be Tuned by THX that is compatible with ANY smart television which supports HDMI ARC or eARC! While this DOES NOT MEAN that it is THX Certified like the Enclave CineHome Pro package, the THX engineers WERE involved in the process of testing, tuning, and auditing its performance. Also, the end result is apparently good enough for Onkyo to private-label this package for the Japanese market!

I will start by saying that I am attracted to the uncovered grille-less look of the five satin-finish speakers, as well as the low-profile form factor of the subwoofer. But I will warn you just in case you don’t already know — young children and their little fingers like to push on exposed speaker drivers, and insert random items into port holes.

The two-way, front-slit-ported front left and right and rear left and right speakers are identical, each measuring just 6.7″ high and 4.3″ wide. They have a mounting hole/thread on the bottom if you choose to purchase optional brackets to attach them to the wall. The center channel speaker is 10.2″ wide and 5.5″ high and features a tweeter, dual midrange drivers, and is dual front-slit-ported. Lastly, all the bass is supplied by the low-profile, downward-firing, side-ported 6.5″ subwoofer which measures a mere 5.3″ in height.

The included round, disc-shaped WiSA SoundSend wireless audio transmitter resembles a slightly-oversized ice hockey puck, measuring 4.3″ in diameter and just 1.1″ high (a hockey puck is 3″ in diameter and 1″ thick, by the way.) An HDMI cable is included to connect it to the HDMI ARC or eARC input on back of your television. Activate the HDMI-CEC feature in your TV’s menu and your TV’s remote will be able to control basic system functions such as power, volume, and mute. (It also has a digital optical audio input.)

Surround sound decoding capabilities include Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Digital, and if your television has eARC, you can enjoy lossless Dolby TrueHD and 3.1.2 Dolby Atmos (or 5.1.2 with the addition of two more optional WiSA Certified speakers). DTS is NOT supported! Advanced system setup and tweaking settings will require you to connect your smartphone to your SoundSend with Bluetooth and use the WiSA SoundSend mobile app.

7 total AC power outlets are required — one to plug in the SoundSend wireless transmitter, five for the speakers, and one for the subwoofer.
