2.1 speaker home theater systems are ideal for those who rent an apartment or dormitory room and/or simply don't want the hassle of fishing and hiding long speaker wires running from the front to the back of the room as you would need to for properly setting up the side / rear / back surround speakers for a "conventional" 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system. There is also the space savings of having no separate center channel speaker to set up! Perhaps you just do a lot more music listening than TV watching.
The 3D-ready Onkyo HTX-22HDX 2.1-channel home theater system pictured to the right features 3 HDMI 1.4a inputs and HDMI output with Audio Return Channel (ARC). It can be upgraded to 5.1 channels in the future with the purchase of additional equipment if you so desire.
The 3D-ready Panasonic SC-HTB15 2.1 channel home theater system pictured below has 2 HDMI 1.4a inputs (one fewer than the Onkyo) and HDMI output with ARC. However, an advantage to the Panasonic over the Onkyo is that its sleeker and taller satellite speakers can alternatively be connected together (see bottom right) and set up as a single long soundbar speaker that sits beneath your television set. |
